Mexico
I had the opportunity to study the culture of Mexico for 5 weeks in four different locations: Puebla, Mexico City, Oaxaca, and Puerto Angel. The focus of our collaborative research included eight areas: art, architecture, commerce, cuisine, customs, geography, history and people. We lived with a local family in Puebla and studied at the Universidad de las Americas before starting our research. We toured local historical sites, visited religious centers, viewed local artisans and their work, ate local cuisine, talked with people about their lives and documented their customs in all four municipalities. We culminated our study by comparing the four locations and writing possible curriculum ties. This work was showcased on a website for five years at the University of Kansas.
