Recruitment and Retention
Goal:Develop recruitment and retention initiatives to increase the number and diversity of high quality teachers prepared to teach in our high needs partner schools.
Activity Clusters:
2-1: Design (year 1), implement, evaluate (years 2-4), institutionalize and disseminate (year 5) a “Grow Your Own Teacher” recruitment program and multiple retention strategies to encourage minority and bilingual students to enter and remain in teacher education.
Programs:
Distance Education Program (ACCESS US)
This program is designed for individuals who are interested in earning a bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education with an area of concentration in ESL. This program is offered on site in Southwestern Kansas in partnership with DCCC, GCCC, SCCC, KSU, USD 443, USD 457, and USD 214.
(Approximately 2 years at a Community college and 2 years at K-State)
The 2+2 program is for individuals who would like to earn a bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education or Secondary Education in one of the areas of emphasis offered at K-State. Interested students take up to 64 credit hours at DCCC, GCCC or SCCC, and then transfer to Kansas State University.

English, General Science, Social Science, Mathematics, Special Education, Modern Languages
Secondary Education Teaching Fields:
Agriculture Education, Journalism, Art Education, Mathematics, Biological Sciences, Modern Languages, Business, French, Chemistry, German, Earth Science, Spanish, English, Music Education, English/Journalism, Physics, Family & Consumer Sciences, Social Studies, Speech/Drama
The Equity and Access project is available to help you earn a bachelor’s degree in elementary or secondary education. We offer support through tutoring, advising, and other support services.
We also assist in filling out financial aid information, locating scholarships, and help in the application process for scholarships. We need caring people like you who would make great teachers for diverse children in your city!
